Motorhead - 25 November 2006
Well this post is a bit late, but thought I had to add it as I thought it was one of the best concerts I have been to, ever!
The energy and feeling of power delivered from the stage threw the crowd into a frenzy. It was so good that even my wife decided to surrender herself to the heaving mass of hysteria in the mosh pit beneath Lemmy's gruff lyrics and screaming guitars.
The supporting acts were also great, leaving us with a feeling of regret that we didn't go to previous Motorhead concerts.
It would be great if Motorhead did a tour to South Africa, we would be there!

Tornado Hits London
Well, what an interesting day! For a Londoner...aaaargh, I hate that word - back to the topic...it was a pleasure to see lightening, hear thunder, watch hail crash up against the windows of the building I work in, on the 34th floor and see snow fall, all within approximately 4 minutes, wow!
Unfortunately, I only got to take a pic of this weird happening after it passed, only to hear later that it was a freak storm. In fact it was a tornado that hit North London, ripping apart houses and injuring a few.

Well, it's been a while since I last posted any news here, so I thought I'll add a little filler just to keep the wind out.
Thinking about my time spent in the U.K. over the last 4 years, I can't say I've wasted it. I've learn't a lot about what I really want in life and how hard I'm going to have to work to get it. I've also been able to buy a lot of really cool toys, that don't only have the capability of bringing joy to me but also have a prospective financial capability. I've also learnt a bit more about how the world works - socially, business and political.
I have to admit...it's been a bit of a growing experience.
Well, that should do it...no more draft.

Guns n' Roses
I went to the G n' R concert held in Wembley on the 30/07/2006. I have to admit, I wasn't holding my breath expecting the best from a band that I feel shouldn't be called G n' R anymore.
You've got this band that is trying to re-create the essence of Guns n' Roses of 13 years ago, it just doesn't work. No disrespect to Axl or any of the other band members, but nothing can replace the legendary Axe wielding solo's of Slash - even the addition of extra guitarists, who are good, but not natural enough. Everything was very acted.
As for Axl, belting out a few of his past hits was great, but when you read that his loooonnngg awaited album 'Chinese Democracy' is still on hold because he wants to see how the public react to his new songs...well, don't hold your breath again. Sad, very sad. After hearing one of the songs at the concert, I felt like leaving because I didn't pay 40 quid to go listen to a 10 minute piano solo that accompanied new lyrics that appeared to be an attempt to win the applause of the crowd.
Nothing more to say really, except that I think Axl should rename his band and get on with it, that's if he really wants to recreate himself.

19" Server - Hardware Build v0.1
After many weeks of procrastination, I finally pieced together my own 19" server that I intend to host my own applications on. I intended to use some high spec. hardware but opted to use some old pieces of kit that I had lying around my room, just to see how things go at first.
Any old pc box will do, but I bought my own 19" box from X-Case with 500watt power supply. The box is really heavy but bomb proof! Inside, I used an old WinFast K7S motherboard that supports an AMD Athlon XP Socket 462 FSB 400 processor. It has support for LAN and all the usual connections. This is about 3 years old. My first hurdle with this board was that I couldn't use my new 500watt P/S, because the power adapter doesn't fit the socket on the motherboard. So, instead I used my old 300watt P/S. I plugged in an old ATI graphics card and an additional 2 socket IDE Controller for when I decide to add more HDD. I'm only using a single Western Digital 40Gb HDD. I'm also only using 512Mb RAM. My motherboard only has 2 sockets for RAM so I could push this up to 2Gb, but that will have to wait. I've also attached a 3.5" Floppy and a 16X Emprex DVD RW drive. The box comes prepared with 2 small intake fans and one large extractor fan, plus all the regular cables that attach to the motherboard. Unfortunately, because my board is so old; I can't attach my LAN Led cable which indicates whether my LAN is UP or DOWN, nor can I attach one of the intake fans because there aren't any supplied pins. Looks like I might be doing an upgrade in the not too distant future!
That's it for now. I'm going to be using a Linux distro for the O/S, CentOS maybe?
Here are some pics of the box...enjoy!

IBM T30 Memory Upgrade
There's a demo laptop listed on the xen wiki> http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenDemoLaptop Quote: I put 2GB in my T42. One SODIMM goes on top of the motherboard and one beneath. The bottom one is easy to install; the top took quite a bit of dissembly. Some google searching located a service manual showing how to access the SODIMM socket. End Quote.
I have no idea why the group from Cambridge took this bush mechanic style step to upgrade an IBM T42! A friend of mine suggested an upgrade so instead of selling my T30's so I could by a MacBook, I decided to upgrade.
Well, after receiving the 2x 1Gb 200pin memory sockets, I promptly inserted them into the 2 memory sockets on my T30. Fantastico - Here's a picture to prove it. BTW: I'm running Linux - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake - IBM Thinkpad T30 Mobile P4 - M CPU 1.8GHz. No need for a MacBook!
